In a decisive victory, CoStar Group has won the high-profile trade secrets lawsuit brought by Move, Inc., the parent company of Realtor.com. This resolution ends a contentious nine-month legal battle without CoStar Group paying any settlement or damages.

Baseless Allegations Dismissed

Move initially accused CoStar and former Move employee James Kaminsky of misappropriating trade secrets to launch a news division. However, CoStar swiftly disproved these allegations. Kaminsky’s role at CoStar—writing condominium descriptions for Homes.com—had no link to Move’s alleged confidential information.

"We did not settle, and we didn’t pay a dime. This dismissal proves Move had no evidence linking CoStar to any trade secrets."

CoStar CEO Andy Florance

After Move amended its claims and sought a preliminary injunction, the court ruled in favor of CoStar, highlighting the lack of credible evidence. CoStar’s legal team then aggressively challenged the validity of the lawsuit, eventually forcing Move to voluntarily dismiss the case with prejudice, fully clearing CoStar and Kaminsky.

Market Impact

"This lawsuit was a PR stunt from the start," stated CoStar CEO Andy Florance. "Move had no evidence linking us to trade secrets, and this dismissal proves it. Our focus remains on winning in the market, providing agents with our innovative 'Your Listing, Your Lead' model on Homes.com."
